FALL 2017 CLASS SCHEDULE

 MONDAYS:
9:30 – Coffee and Current events (meets daily at 9:30 in the Art Room)
Make a cup of coffee, or other drink and take a look at what’s going on in CLO, in our town, in our state and in our country.
 
Fitness Club 10:00-11:00
This will be a community based fitness class utilizing the recreation centers -- Rock Chalk Park, Holcomb Park Rec Center, Community Building, East Lawrence Rec Center, Lawrence High School track or just walking the trails in Lawrence.
10:30 – 12:00 – Meals on Wheels
We are always looking for volunteers to help deliver meals to the elderly!  Please let Rashanda or Deb know if you would like to participate!
Lunch A 11:15 -11:45 and Lunch B 11:45 - 12:45
1:00 – Art Explorations
(Lead by at Registered Art Therapist)
Join our structured visual arts therapy class!  It aids in self-control, as well as feelings of being heard, seen, and understood. Discover the elements of art such as line, color, form and texture! We will draw, paint, and make jewelry, and that’s just for starters!  In Come to the Center and explore art.  Let Rashanda or TJ know of any suggestions for projects.
2:00 -3:00- Healthy Snacks
Prepare a healthy snack to eat and share with friends.  Each week we will plan the snack for the following week, so come prepared with ideas.
 
TUESDAYS:

10:00 –* Bowling at Royal Crest Lanes*
Join us for bowling every Tuesday morning.  It’s some exercise and lots of fun!!!  Arrive at center by 9:30 (be sure to have a pair of socks)
10:30 – 12:00 – Meals on Wheels

1:00 - 1:45 Photo Shop
Intro to Photo come join this class and learn how to create art thru pictures and photos.
1:30 – 2:30 Ceramics
Work with wet clay to make lots of interesting projects.  These will be fired in the kiln, right here at the Center.

10:00 :11:00 Animals Around us
*Teaching to be aware of what is around us.  Visits to Prairie park natural center, Pet world, Humane Society, Lakeview Nature Center, Ernie Miller Nature Center *
10:00 –11:00 Grocery shopping for Cooking Club
Head to the grocery store with the list made on Tuesday.  Each person will be responsible for part of the list.

1:00 –3:00 Movie Day or Swimming at Lawrence/Olathe Indoor Aquatics Center
*Come to the Center and watch your favorite movie with friends or meet a group at the indoor pool for an afternoon of swimming.*

THURSDAYS:

On the Move Thursdays!
We will be spending Thursdays exploring and experiencing the city around us, each week we will visit a new location. Please pack a sack lunch that does not need to be heated. For a list of trips and activities please contact rashandabays@clokan.org
     10:00 – 11:00 Cooking with Chef Sharon!
Cooking is an excellent skill not only for learning nourishment, but puts math, science, organizational skills, cleaning skills.  Attend the cooking club, learn to make a yummy dish!

This is a great way to build confidence, encourage others and participation skills! Are you the next winner of America’s got talent?  Come and show us what you got!

Jazz Storytelling 10:00-2:00
Come join us as we travel to American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, MO
This program introduces families to the sounds and styles of jazz, America’s art form! JAZZ Storytelling features an internationally renowned cast including vocalist Lisa Henry, storyteller Brother John, bassist Tyrone Clark, and drummer Mike Warren. Please bring a snack lunch.
11:00 – 12:00  Lunch Bunch
Leave your lunch at home and come cook with us! This group session is designed to boost self-esteem, social skills and increase peer relation.

1:00 – CLO CO-OP
This is a class designed to make items for the CLO CO-OP.  The CLO Co-op is a store where consumer-made products will be sold.  This is an opportunity for our men and women to make some money and participate in a meaningful activity.   Those homes wanting to participate and can’t make it during this time, can come on Tuesday mornings or Thursday afternoons.  Call Ginnie Ellis with questions (785-979-7933).
2:00 – 3:00 Sunflower Music Therapy
(Lead: Board Certified Music Therapist)
 Music therapy provides a unique variety of music experiences in an intentional and developmentally appropriate manner to effect changes in behavior and facilitate development of skills.

Independent Activities: The Center has a wide range of engagement activities available for independent access.  Art activities, exercise equipment, computers, billiards, air hockey and relaxing in our Sensory Room are always options.
 Center After-Hours Access:  Enjoy a meal, movie or a game night at the Center. Contact Rashanda Bays to arrange these activities. 
Work schedules:    Community based supported employment; community based volunteering; Senior Meals delivery recycling crew; and/or shredding crew will take priority over classes in the schedule.
