"Cross-site" day services classes aim to share a wealth of knowledge and skills!

CLO is implementing a new and exciting strategy for the three Day Services programs located in Lenexa, Lawrence, and Baldwin City, KS. For the first time ever, we are offering "cross-site" day classes that will bring programs offered in these respective locations to the two other program sites. CLO’s Directors from the Day Services program have begun teaching classes and workshops at all locations on a rotating basis. Taking advantage of the unique talents of these individuals, CLO will be able to provide a well-rounded experience and infuse new curriculum into the programs. The goal is to have each of our Day Services directors visit the other two sites on a regular basis and share their knowledge with participants with whom they do not regularly interact.

"Our Directors bring an enormous wealth of talent, expertise and experience", explained Dr Stephen Aspleaf, Director of NEK Day Services and Midnight Farm. "Deb Engstrom in Lawrence, Melba Wright in Overland Park, and Elizabeth Barkley at Midnight Farm have unique sets of skills, and sharing them across sites makes a lot of sense. We expect the cross-site visits to bring more continuity and synergy to our Day Services, expand the curriculum, and create an even richer learning environment for the men and women we serve."

The start of cross-site classes was a resounding success when Midnight Farm's Elizabeth Barkley visited Johnson County Day Services to teach our consumers how to pot plants. Everyone helped to beautify the back of the Center by planting mums.  The Midnight Farm Day Services coordinator also spent time with the Johnson County teachers to develop ideas for the back yard of the Center and prepare for next spring's planting.

For the next phase of the "cross-site" initiative Melba Wright will provide music classes to Day Services participants in Lawrence. Deb Engstrom will travel to Overland Park to introduce her new cooking program.

CLO needs to raise $50,000 to complete the much needed renovations to our Day Services Center in Lawrence, KS. These funds are required to complete the remaining interior renovations for both the interior space and entrance before winter. This includes: a new, expanded, and fully accessible kitchen; a warm air-lock entryway; and some needed tables, chairs, and supplies. Please, consider supporting this important project. The people with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by CLO will benefit from your kindness and generosity for years to come.
